Trainee Solicitor
Location: Children’s Law Centre, Rights House, 127-131 Ormeau Road, Belfast, BT7 1SH
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: £22,475.53 – £23,149.81
Duration: Fixed term 29 months

Thank you for your interest in joining the Children’s Law Centre (CLC) as a Trainee Solicitor under the Legal Education Foundation’s Justice First Fellowship Scheme.
We are delighted to once again be offering this opportunity with support from the Legal Education Foundation. This role offers an opportunity to work, train with and learn from CLC’s experienced legal, advice and policy teams. The successful applicant will work directly with children and young people, including youth panel, Youth@CLC. They will engage with legal, health and education professionals to advocate for improved children’s services delivery for children who are vulnerable and disadvantaged through disability, special educational needs, poor mental health, homelessness and those children seeking asylum.
The fellowship scheme will commence in April 2024 and finish at the end of August 2026. Training will be based at the Children’s Law Centre and will cover delivery of CLC’s legal advice and information service, provision of legal outreach services, client casework, negotiation and representation at tribunal hearings, involvement in strategic litigation, policy and training from a children’s rights perspective.
The trainee will complete a 29-month solicitor traineeship, combining pre and post course periods of in-office training with 12 months full-time study.
The successful candidate will be supported by CLC to complete their solicitors training at The Institute of Professional Legal Studies in accordance with Law Society of Northern Ireland requirements. They will also develop and implement a social justice project under the Fellowship Scheme and will have the opportunity to attend and participate in wider support and training opportunities organised by the Legal Education Foundation and its partners.
