What am I applying for (EUSS)?

You are applying for permission to remain living in the UK.

If you have lived in the UK for 5 years, then you will be granted settled status. This means you can stay permanently.

If you have lived in the UK for less than 5 years, you will be granted pre-settled status. You will be granted permission to stay here for another 5 years.

You can apply for settled status at any stage when you have completed a total period of living here for 5 years (this is the only type of application that can be made after 30 June 2021).

Who needs to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS)?

ALL EU/EEA nationals and their family members. This also applies to those who have previously been granted a “Permanent Residence Card”.
The only exceptions are if you are a British citizen, an Irish citizen, or if you hold “Indefinite Leave to Remain”.

You can make your own application, if you wish to. You can also get help from others to submit your application to the EUSS. You do not need permission from your parents, or anyone else, in order to make an application.

For more information or advice you can speak to a legal advisor confidentially on 08088085678 or by emailing ree@childrenslawcentre.org.

What is the ‘EU Settlement Scheme’ (EUSS)?

The United Kingdom (UK) has now left the European Union (EU). The government has decided that all EU/EEA nationals and their family members who want to continue to live in the UK, must make an application under the EU Settlement Scheme.

All applications should be submitted online, using a special Home Office App. It will guide you through the process and takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. Click here to access the online application.

If someone does not make an application, they will lose their right to live in the UK after 30 June 2021. The right to live in the UK carries with it other very important rights.
